PREPARING FOR AN APPRAISAL:

Decide which items are going to be appraised.  Make a list if possible.

Be clear about the purpose of the appraisal and the type of value you need researched.  Is it for insurance scheduling, estate settlement, divorce, damage claim?  Insurance Replacement Cost, Fair Market Value or Liquidation Value?

Choose a time for the inspection when distractions will be minimized for you and for the appraiser.

Gather documentation, i.,e. sales receipts, certificates, previous appraisals, letters, exhibition catalogs.

Have all items unlocked and available.

Pull large furniture away from the wall, if possible.

Have good lighting available.

Separate sets of silver, china, stemware.

Unpack boxes of items to be appraised.

The inspection will be more time and cost efficient if you are organized.
