PREPARING FOR AN APPRAISAL:
Decide which items are going to be appraised. Make a list if possible.
Be clear about the purpose of the appraisal and the type of value you need researched. Is it for insurance scheduling, estate settlement, divorce, damage claim?
Choose a time for the inspection when distractions will be minimized.
Gather documentation, i.,e. sales receipts, certificates, previous appraisals, letters, exhibition catalogs.
Have all items unlocked and available.
Pull large furniture away from the wall, if possible.
Have good lighting available.
Separate sets of silver, china, stemware.
If you are organized, the inspection will be more time and cost efficient.
